A post failed to publish

Find out why a scheduled post did not go out, and how to get it posted.

Checked on Oct 1, 2026

When a post does not go out, it shows Failed on the Calendar. Click it, and the red box Why it did not go out tells you why. The Calendar in the menu shows a badge with the number of posts that failed in the last 30 days.

Read why it failed

  1. Open Promote → Calendar and click the failed post.
  2. Read the red box Why it did not go out. It says what went wrong in a plain sentence, with the platform’s own words under it. The date reads Was due.
  3. If the box asks you to connect the platform again, open Promote → Channels, click Reconnect on the card and sign in again.
When a platform asks for a new login at posting time, we do not drop the post. It changes to Waiting for you to post, and we email you the post, ready to share by hand.

Get the post out

  • When a new time can fix the post, pick a time in the future under Goes out and click Schedule again. The post turns Scheduled and keeps its caption and media. It does not take another post from your monthly quota.
  • When the post cannot go out as it is, click Schedule again in Composer. Composer opens with the caption and the channel picked. Attach a clip and schedule it.
  • You can still fix the caption with Save caption or remove the post with Cancel this post. For a post that shows Waiting for you to post, click Share now, use Copy caption, post it on the platform and click I posted it.

What the red box can say

The box names the platform of the post. Here, Instagram stands for any platform.

  • "Instagram cannot post text only. Add a clip in the Composer and schedule the post again." Instagram and TikTok need a photo or a video, and YouTube needs a video. Use Schedule again in Composer.
  • "The Instagram channel of this post is gone. Write the post again in the Composer." The channel was removed. Use Schedule again in Composer.
  • "We could not refresh your Instagram sign-in. Connect Instagram again on the Channels screen, then schedule the post again." Reconnect the channel, then use Schedule again.
  • "The clip is too large to send to Instagram. Attach a shorter clip in the Composer." Use Schedule again in Composer and attach a shorter clip.
  • "We could not read the clip of this post. Attach it again in the Composer." Use Schedule again in Composer and attach the clip again.
  • "Instagram did not finish the upload in time. Schedule the post again." Use Schedule again.
  • "Instagram refused the post. This is what it said:" and the words of the platform. Fix what it names, then schedule the post again.
Composer no longer lets you schedule a text-only post to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, so a new post does not fail for that reason. Facebook can post text only. Threads posts are not auto-posted yet: we email you the post to share by hand.

Cannot schedule at all? Your plan may have used its posts for the month. A failed post still counts toward this month’s scheduled posts. See I hit a plan limit. Still stuck? Email [email protected] with the platform and the time of the post.
